Young Guns 9
by Yuri, at 27/9-14 - 18:18 GMT

Written by Chris Fabio of Avataria

Last seasons young guns managed 41 results in season 28, after they won it looks like most of them just couldn’t handle the pressure of being a Young Gun as they totally managed 15 results in season 29. Only Wennerlund managed to keep up with earlier achievements as he managed 5 results in both seasons. They are still young so much can change, but maybe this Young Gun award is cursed? Let’s see if this seasons Young Guns can handle the pressure better!

  Bjarne Dandanell
- 24 yo
  WV De Dommel
  Climber

  Trained by: WV De Dommel

It was not an easy choice, but Dandanell is the rider that must bear comparison with last years winner Andre Škerjanc. Dandanell is a rider without the biggest advantages, but he wins because of the lack of weaknesses. He showed in this seasons Germany Tour that he is a talented rider that will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

  Santiago Campelo
- 24 yo
  Gradient Levellers
  Sprinter

  Trained by: Gradient Levellers

With 21 results + 13 other placings within top 9, Campelo is the easiest pick this season.

To dominate that much in the strongest sprinters field ever is just remarkable. Enough said?

  Lech Wi?ckowski
- 24 yo
  Kremer
  TT’er

  Trained by: Kremer

He could just as well be this years Tour Specialist, as he actually won Volta ao Porto. It is however in the TT’s he is a beast. In the flat TT’s he can compete and even win against the best. In the climbing TT’s he will dominate for years to come!

  Philippe Starkey
- 23 yo
  Jumentus CT
  Hilly Sprinter

  Trained by: Jumentus CT

This was not an easy pick, as he had strong competition and have never managed a top 9. We still believe it is the right choice, and that he will prove it already over the next season!

  Hunter Samuels
- 24 yo
  squadra sora
  Allrounder (Hiller)

  Trained by: squadra sora

As last season, this seasons Allrounder Young Gun is specialized in the hills. As long as

there are no nasty cobbles or frightening descents this guy will have a great chance in winning. So far he have never raced higher than 4th division, this will for sure change when his experience grows and he takes his team trough the divisions.

  Rodolfo Gomez
- 24 yo
  Opium Fueled
  Cobbler

  Trained by: Opium Fueled

Unlike last seasons Young Gun Cobbler, this is a very specialized rider. He will not win the race if it ends in a sprint, but most of the time this heavy Spaniard will destroy his opponents on the cobblesections and arrive completely alone towards the finish line.

  François Gasana
- 24 yo
  Silver Giant
  Tour Specialist

  Trained by: Silver Giant

He have never ridden a tour, but with his team now in 3rd division, he will for sure soon get the chance. There is many riders better than him in the mountains, even more better than him in the time trials. But combined and in top form he will for sure be one of the favorites in any tour.

Note: Only riders 24yo or younger was nominated, oldest nominees were preferred so the younger riders can have the chance next season!
