Never really fulfilling his teams endless expectations of glory and domination François decided to turn his attention towards the World Tour. His versatile skills and relatively weak National Team made him a sure starter in virtually any World Tour race. In Season 46 he rode his last and 148th race for Burundi. A record not likely to be beaten any time soon. However, he did not only use his skills in service of other riders, as he finished on the podium 4 times and had 10 top9s.
After retiring François turned his back on cycling and started producing finely hand carved, decorated karyendas. In a recent interview Gasana stated that making these drums filled his heart with a joy that cycling never did.
Rumour has it that both Silver Giant and the Burundian National Team considered resigning from competitive cycling after François Gasanas era.
