Aldis emerged onto the OCM scene from a local cycling club in R?zekne. The club would ride through town on weekends, doing hill sprints on the hills scattered throughout the city.
Aldis was swooped up by an American team, when he expressed his interest in joining the pro ranks. His background making him a talented hiller. Aldis however dreamed of becoming a GC contender and focused on climbing in his first few years as a pro.
His decision to focus on the GC made him a great all round rider with exceptional hill and climbing skills, the cost was however that he lost his sprint in the process. On paper Aldis seems like a hiller, but in reality his biggest results came in the high mountains. With a top 9 in Alpe d'Huez Classic, Critérium La Provence, Germany Tour and Volta ao Porto.

A top 9 in Cymru testifies to his natural hilling ability. Aldis made a quick detour to South Africa soon afterwards, but returned to Europe, sighting the climate and lack of lush forests a cry to far from home.
Aldis decided that he will retire in Holland, where he can lazily cycle past the windmills and enjoy the scenery, with the option of traveling to the Ardennes in neighboring Belgium, should the hilling urge ever strike.
