Afanasy Tyannikov was born in Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan and already from an early age, you could see he had great talent. He won a lot of time trial races as a junior rider, before he was being signed by Velodromers, a local team from his home country.
Danish team, Rooney17 saw his potential and brought him to Denmark, and though he only had one race in his first season, the Hungarian race, Szolnok Race, where he only finished 98th, they still believed he could be a future star. The blonde Afanasy was send on special training to improve his time trial skills, and soon he was one of the best in the world. In 2012 he was the 6th fastest time trial rider on the hour record ranking, but since then he dropped down to number 10, as a result of more competition from younger riders.

Season 18, the year after his debut, he won his first victory in Hamad TT and some of his biggest victories were in the ROTM tour, especially in season 20, where he won both the prologue and the time trial stage. One season later he won the Prologue again in the same tour.
Afanasy Tyannikov has 16 victories through his whole professional career, but also a bunch of second and third places. He’s a well respected rider in the peloton, and is known for his great leadership and experience. His loyalty to his team Rooney17 and manager Kenneth Sørensen, has earned him a spot in the teams Hall of Fame, and in the future, he will also be joining the team as member of the staff.
