Plenty of races take part in this lovely little town at the foot of Karkonosze Mountains and it comes with no surprise that Piechowice - Karpacz has become a well known race hosting each year the best climbers and downhillers of the professional peloton.
Riders start from Piechowice and after a few miles they reach Podgorzyn, where they enter a 26km loop leading them up to Karpacz and down to Podgorzyn over and over again. The climb to Karpacz starts from the town of Milkow and is 7km long with 10% gradient in the final 500 meters. It may not sound as the toughest of climbs, however it becomes a challenge if you need to face it 6 times in a row!
The road leading downhill from Karpacz is twisty and runs through the forest, so it becomes very slippery at times. History shows that a brave attack on this descent can lead to a win, so the top climbers need to watch out for the fearless downhillers who may steal the show.
