The King’s stage starts in Nässjö, a small city that has grown around three lakes (and a few small ones). It is a center for the wood industry in the region, but has also seen electronics play a big role in the local economy.
Today’s route is close to a full circle, as the finish in Eksjö is only around 15 kilometers away from the start. But the detour means this stage will be a test for the peloton. Throughout the day many small hills will have to be climbed. They aren’t likely to be difficult enough to rid the peloton of pure sprinters, but they will certainly tire them.
When the riders approach Eksjö, they will take a turn right onto some gravel roads. Here the route gets very technical, as it makes it way around Hunsnäsen lake. The gravel section ends just before the riders enter Eksjö. This town is famous for its old wooden built city center, which is supposed to be the oldest remaining original in Sweden. The finish line is drawn on the small city square, in front of the local church. Here the best of the best will be deciding who wins the Cup. The winner will get to take home a beautiful and obviously well designed trophy.
