The race begins at sunrise at the Plaza de la Independencia and cross this desert city through the Avenida Sarmiento where the giant trees covering the avenue are irrigated from the canalized streams of melted snow from the nearby Andes.
Riders then take to Ruta Nacional 7 that leads them right into the impressive Andes mountains that will drop off all unprepared climbers. Near the summit riders might encounter the dangerous Zonda winds and sudden snow storms. The race ends at the Chile-Argentina border under the gaze of the Christ the Redeemer of the Andes statue.
