At the beginning of this new period of the season, the bad luck and poor performances continued, and Yoweri Ayesu had another very disappointing race in Plasencia - Plasencia.
After this the team left from the Iberian Peninsula to set base near the Russian-Finnish border by the Baltic, to enter Heim Imatra with the best possible World Communism Team squad for such a all-round race. However this was also not meant to be and with another two off-days in the squad and no good legs, Yoweri Ayesu could not get a top 9 and even finished behind teammate Xolani Lamola.
World Communism Team then entered Berdichev - Ozerne, without any ambition to beat the sprinters on the day, just hoping for a breakaway to go the distance, to get training points in FR/SP/TQ and to burn DP to get a few riders Top Form ready. As expected, Yoweri Ayesu did not contend for a result, and fellow Zambian Deng Kazilawe of Team Sahin won the bunch sprint. In this race Kuumba Rusesabagina had the occasions to race along two of his Tanzania National Team partners.
The same approach was used in the Danube Delta in Tulcea Sprint, where the team was after training and Top Form readiness and after a possible breakaway. But the break was caught, and the team did not get anything from the race.
On the very same day, World Communism Team finally narrowly ended a cold run that had been going on for 43 days, when Addis Gebreselassie finished at a very modest 9th place on the hills of Grevenmacher - Diekirch, finally scoring 2 OCM points and some prize money for the team.
As a confirmation that the curse was finally lifted, on the very next day Yoweri Ayesu also registered points and prize money in The Sleeping Giant of Gaborone with a 9th place of his own despite his low DP. In a race located near the HQ of the team in South Africa and near his native Zambia.
Addis Gebreselassie then had another bad race in The Flight of the Shahbaz and failed to make a top 9 and score a point despite arguably having been a solid outsider for a podium on the day.
In Addis Gebreselassie’s following race, World Communism Team was very confident to achieve its season objective and take a Division 7 win on the undulating roads of Punta Umbria - Villanuêva de las Cruces. Addis Gebreselassie seemed to be clearly ahead of other entrants on the day and was a very clear favourite for the win.
Unfortunately, the Ethiopian had yet another off day. He was beaten to the line by big surprise winner Roger Cleempit, veteran sprinter of TTT whom we did not think could be a threat on that race. Addis Gebreselassie was still able to take second place despite his off day, but this was no consolation given the circumstances.
In the Uttendorf - Matrei in Osttirol classic, World Communism Team had only very modest expectations due to the good quality of the climbers on the start line. And indeed Addis Gebreselassie and the squad could not register a result.
At the close of this period, the team was entered into Whakataetae o te Ahi ka Ao, a race in which World Communism Team has been a regular entrant for the past few seasons, and where chairman uMaliyasi had decent hopes to finally take a win and achieve this season’s objective.
Unfortunately, comrade Addis Gebreselassie could not beat Tobias Pettinato of Vegemight who took the win, and Csiki Riders’ Irving Iles who snatched 2nd place in Top Form.
While Addis Gebreselassie had to settle for third for the team of the world proletariat.
With 30 days left in season 52, World Communism Team is still in search of a victory this season, and is still short of its season objectives.
