Co-leader of Lindfield Locknuts Hagen Hunzberger is now well over half way through his career with the young Isle of Man team Lindfield Locknuts, and has had a few successful moments through his seasons to date. But nothing is close to what he managed to achieve in the last few days.
At quite short notice, manager SitsWith Remote decided to send a squad to the inaugural running of the Rundfahrt der Schlösser der Alpen this week. The intended captain was to be 25-year-old Pole Daniel Niedziela. But during the opening TT stage it became clear that Hunzberger had hit his best form, while Niedziela was a bit off. The Luxembourg Number 1 managed 5th against the clock so Remote made a quick decision to commit to him, with Niedziela shifting to a support role.
Over the remaining three stages, and with Niedziela now providing Lead Out and Hill support work, plus Downhill expert Martim Vidigal also in his best possible shape, HH was able to hang in, place top ten in all the stages and achieve his and the Locknuts' first ever tour podium. There was never any chance of beating Radoslav Dechev who swept all stages, or Fico Nato almost a minute ahead in 2nd place, but to be 3rd on GC at the end of an Alpine tour in Division 4, is more than anyone in Lindfield could have hoped for.
