Hello and welcome to the number one read of the season, thanks to one of the fastest ever nominating and voting-processes, it’s the season 32 awards results!

So let’s jump straight into the action, starting this season with a few inspirational words from Albert Einstein: “Life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your balance you must keep moving”

The first category is the Sieuwerd Schimmel trophy for best cobbler, which was an extremely close affair between Cristobal Zubizarreta and Even Erlandsen. There were five votes between them, but it was the rider from Drapeau Noir who wins this award!

Now to the fastest people against the clock, that’s right it’s the Gregory Levis trophy for best time trailer! There were many contenders for this season’s award, but one topped all of them in a major way…. Rene Schimmel didn’t just beat his opponents, he destroyed them both in races and in awards. He had more than double the votes of second place. Very impressive!

Another quote is in order for the next two categories, this time it’s from Mark Twain: “Get a bicycle. You will certainly not regret it, if you live”

This quote definitely applies for the Jan-Joost Dussel trophy for best sprinter, where all those crazy riders sprint for the line at crazy speeds! This season it was a close battle between a Kenyan and a Portuguese rider. Both got voted a lot, but at the end of the day it was NCCC’s sprinter Frederick Longosiwa who wins this award!

The quote also applies for the Sterling Dorsher trophy for best climber. If your heart and legs can take the pain, then you truly deserve this award! Again, it seems to be a theme this season, there were two top riders: Jerry Grundin and Oskar Kvam. And shocks of all shocks the Swede took the award with another incredible season!

Now, for the award for the best old rider and best young rider, are two quotes from Jens Voigt: “When my legs hurt, I say: "Shut up legs! Do what I tell you to do!” and “If it hurts me, it must hurt the other ones twice as much”

  So now onto the award

for the best old rider, and this season it was between Jim van Avermaet and Sigurd Guldhammer. The Belgian sprinter and the Danish cobbler both had very impressive seasons for their ages, but there can be only one winner and it is Jim! He took the win nearly getting 100 votes in total.

Now if you think any of the other awards were close, this one for the young riders is just insane! There were three votes between the top two, Oskar Kvam and Spartak Astankov. One a climber and one a sprinter, both had great seasons, but it was Spartak who wins this award.

A quote that Finz would love: “Crashing is part of cycling as crying is part of love” by Johan Museeuw. This award is for the best manager of the season, for which there were many great candidates again, some even out of the top five of the final rankings! Surprise, surprise, we nominated some great manager performances not right at the top of the division, but this award went to Chris Fabio, who had a great season! He and his riders did a great job in tours, races, classics so a well-deserved win!

There were 20 votes between the top five of the best manager outside top division award! It was an extremely close affair, the top three were covered by 8 votes! It was between Milo, hhauge and Oscar Camenzind….. But the final winner in this very close category is Oscar! Congrats to him on this great season!

“Biking is good for the brain, and not bad for the ass either”. This is what the best breakthrough riders tell themselves when they start cycling for a profession!
This season’s best breakthrough rider goes to a certain tour rider who did something no one else has ever done! Win both the general and youth classifications in the Race of the Minutemen tour and the Monte Rosa Tour! The well-deserved winner is Miroslav Arbenz who had two incredible tours!

For the best breakthrough team there were a few teams that impressed a lot to the voters. Our committee leader Don’s team was in the voting and everyone who is anyone thought he was going to win, but the award went to the Australian team called Redmond Racing! He had a great season!

“On my tenth birthday a bicycle and an atlas coincided as presents

and a few days later I decided to cycle to India” is a fitting statement for the best world tour rider.

So, this season it was between a Belgian, a Dutch and a Danish rider, and in the end it was Anthony Soetens, an incredible hiller climber who won this award, for himself and his country!
“You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy a bicycle and that’s pretty close”. I must say that the way quotes go, that’s my favourite one so far!

Now onto the Elias Márquez trophy for best tour rider which involved some great performances from last season, the most important were from Miroslav Arbenz and Yrjänä Sistonen. Miroslav, as previously said had a great double victory and Sistonen dominated multiple tours and in the end it was the sprinting time trialler who wins this award!

And now for the Truman Vancil trophy for best hiller. This winner got the most votes in one award this seasons, with an impressive 145! Winning this prestigious award is Sam Duncan! The American hill sprinter had a great season as many did, but he was the peoples favourite and winner!

Now for some famous cyclist quotes for the final two awards: “It never gets easier, you just go faster” from Greg LeMond and “Don’t buy upgrades, ride up grades” by Eddy Merckx.

So now onto the penultimate award, the best rider outside top division, which was between Miroslav Arbenz (again this rider had a great season!) and the incredible sprinter Roar Brun who could be the next best insane sprinter for the 8 seasons to come, so it’s only right that Roar won! He did a great job and takes this award!

And now a drum roll please for the final award, for the best rider of the season! The five nominated for this season were Jerry Grundin, Santiago Campelo, Spartak Astankov, Frederick Longosiwa and Oskar Kvam. Jerry, Spartak and Frederick have already won awards and Jerry adds another! He wins this award with a difference of 65 votes! An incredible amount and obviously the people’s choice!

I must say a huge congratulations to everyone who won awards and to all riders who had great seasons! Good luck for this season! And as always, may the odds be ever in your favour!
