FFL are putting the final preparations together before they jet off to Germany later this week for the biggest tour on the OCM calendar. Last year team manager James M vowed to return to this years tour with a GC contender however the big hope Paul-Erik Koch failed to fulfil his phenomenal potential and hasn’t even been included in the team, instead focussing on the few climbing TTs that take place around this time of the year.
The introduction of the sprint classification has really boosted the hopes for FFL. “we have such good TTers that they are as good as most peoples lead out men” James M said, “Tavio and Halsey are so quick on the flat and have such superb technique that they more than make up for top end being speed not being equal to that of the very best lead outs in the OCM”. As a result of this FFL have a great shot at picking up stage victories in the TT and sprinting stages, and with no GC contender the team can take the mountains very easily too conserving energy for the key stages.
The team go into Germany on a huge high, following wins in the teams last 2 races. “We have a development team out in Lillehammer tomorrow who would be doing very well to get a result and then another great chance of a result in the TT on Thursday” commented the lead coach. “I think that will set us up perfectly for Germany and any earnings will be used to promote our climbing team. We started as a climbing team but ended up switching to sprints and TT’s because of the talent that we were able to gather into our team…It has long been an ambition to get a team that can compete in the mountains, and we have many talented riders looking for the required funding to get them there, alternatively we may try to bring another top name to FFL and then build a strong team around them
