After a decade of competition, it is time to examine what is TACXkin's place in OCM history.
In total, the Team TACXkin counted for 61 results, including 25 wins. Manager Wesp started season #11 with Belgian all rounders, such as Jean-Paul de Weert, Davy Swinnen and Charles Wennerlund, now racing for de Mongolenwaaier, Kavakava and Australian Warlord respectively. These riders were victorious in races like Astana Mini GP and Budapest Meeting Point (de Weert), Leonara TT (Swinnen) and Roubaix Mini Classic (Wennerlund). However, the team was built around Gaetan Dauwe, who is a hill finisher. During his career, he gave TACXkin seven victories, including Minsk CB GP. Midway season 15, Freek Dehaese was signed, which gave the team a hill sprinter, who is successful in one day races, like the classic Mito-Tokyo and recently in Gisborne-Wairata, as well as in tours. He has won stages in the RotM and the Monte Rosa Tour and made it possible for TACXkin to enter the Zyte Division. From season 18, the team focused on the cobble races, and could get hold of Alexis Terrier, a young talented Frenchman. During the season #19, Alexis became the French national champion and was able to fetch first prices in Bouillon Classic, Torino GP and Anakara CBGP.
Team TACXkin's definite highlight was the one-two in Minsk CB GP. However, it also marked the end of the team as we knew it. Some 15 km for the finish of this 16th edition of the Zyte Division's cobble classic, the sprint for the line was decided, when two TACXkin riders were the couple in winning position. Manager and directeur sportif Wesp who was following the race in the team car talked to the owner of TACXkin, who said that Belgian veteran Gaetan Dauwe was to win the race in favour of young Frenchman Alexis Terrier, who was ordered to finish second. During the season this caused great rivalry between the two riders, which was one of the causes of the lack of results in the second part of the season #19.
Mission controller Wesp had to make some serious choices. Today, in a press conference, a decisive Wesp stated: “At the start of the this season, Gaetan Dauwe (31) will leave the team. He is a talented rider, on which we counted on from the start. The victory in Minsk has be seen as a sign of respect from our sponsor for his longstanding commitment. However, we must anticipate on the future of the team and on the effect the new OCM rules will have. In the near future, we will set our focus on Captain Dehaese, Ralf Tielemans and the talented youngsters: Alexis Terrier, Sjors Knol, the van Asseldonk brothers, balthazar Bosmans and Frederik Wautiers.”
Meanwhile, Gaetan Dauwe was not at all satisfied with the way he and TACXkin separated. He did therefore not use the opportunity of a farewell during the today's presentation of the new team by his former teammates. "I don't feel like partying, given the way I had to leave," Dauwe said in yesterday's Het Nieuwsblad. The financial offer he received from the team was disappointing. "It showed they really wanted to go not with me," grumbles the Belgian in the Flemish newspaper. A reading that is not entirely match that of Wesp at the team presentation preseding season #20. "The difference in supply and demand was too great, that's all. It is unfortunate that we have separate in this way."
