Team Hc Alpine has had one of its worst stretches in team history. Both Gaspar and Magne had no answers to the problems but were hoping that their first tour participation ever, "Monte Rosa Tour" would be a different story.
Team manager Anthony Leutenegger is a die hard Canadian but has a soft spot for Swiss races since he has dual citizenship with both countries. "The goal for this tour was top 9 GC considering Gaspar is not a great climber. We knew however that he is strong in every aspect including TTing and for this reason we thought there was an outside chance of a podium finish. Realistically though this was not going to happen."
The first stage went exactly as we hoped as Gaspar came 2nd in the prologue, unfortunately on the 2nd stage which was his type of hilly stage he had a mechanical with 5k to go and ended up in 14th. Had we done well on that stage this tour might have gone a completely different way. Luckily Gaspar had some good form and produced 10th place finishes for the next 3 stages, which was enough to keep him in 8th overall.
"I am very happy with my performance considering the recent bad luck. This is not really a Tour suited for me but I pulled off 2nd in one stage and 8th overall. I could not have done it without my team mates, and also hope that Ariel recovers from his collarbone fracture.""Its our first Tour and we rode well, hopefully we can build on this for the future."
