Farewell to the game

Written by Lesura AFC at 12:35 10/5-2024

My interest in playing the game has been decreasing sharply for the last few months, so I’ve decided to write some heartfelt lines to mark the decision to stop playing it.

I’ve been playing since April 2021, a period in which I was very lonely and lived a though time. I was very active in following real life cycling races, so I was very interested in cycling stuff. The game has quickly become a daily “activity” and I happily remember arranging tactics in public places and proudly explaining the mechanics to my friends. The whole OCM world was (and still is) super cool to me and many friends of mine found it interesting to know more about it. I’ve been playing daily for years and it has quickly become a funny habit.

I’m a highly creative person and therefore I started fantasising about my cyclists and the best ones ended up with their own mental traits. I particularly ended up creating a funny emotional bond with 2 riders of the starting team, Tiberio Favado and Gregorio Moreno.

Favado was the first winning captain, even though he didn’t have the chance to compete in higher divisions. He was my main hope and was very consistent in results. In late 2021, two friends of mine also made me a special gift, printing a laminated card of Favado with his info card screen, which I proudly keep inside my wallet. This is still the best and most surprising present I’ve ever received. Update days a couple of days after this note: "Tiberio Favado has retired as a trainer after 10 seasons of service." What a timing!

Gregorio Moreno was more relatable. He had great potential but was always too sad to win races. This "mental" thing was really amusing because it made him feel real. I also had my fault because I wasn’t training him well enough and preferred to spend money in buying more riders. After much time and experience, Moreno started to achieve more and more results and eventually gave the team a great help. He eventually ended up UNMAXED as the rider with the highest average value.

Agostino Salerno also needs a special mention. He is the most successful rider of the team history with 7 wins and was extremely consistent in lower divisions.

A note about rankings: I believe my highest ranking is division 3 and I’m super happy about it. I decided to play the game in a chill way and enjoyed the lower divisions as much as the higher ones. I found the talents and the hire list the best parts of the game and didn’t like much the community transfers.

Why I’m quitting and final thoughts: the whole game experience hasn’t received many significant updates throughout the years and therefore during the last few months it has become too repetitive to me. Mid-2021 to early 2024 is a crazy long amount of time, so this has surely been the most durable gaming interaction I've ever had.

I’m very thankful towards the developers and I'm glad I discovered this website. I found the game very inspiring for my personal digital projects and ideas. I hope the game will get more and more popular in a time in which videogames get more and more lifeless. I'm sure I've learned a lot from this game and hope I'll manage to apply some principles to my amateur coding projects.

Indeed, nice to have a bit of insight in you as a manager. Good to see that OCM was a place for you in difficult times. Best of luck in your real life.
