Well, we have finally achieved our long term goal. Hadley Childers pulled on the green jersey of the Germany Tour to complete his set of the 3 grand tours. Everything we have done for the last 6 seasons has been working towards this goal, so now a change is needed.
Until day 63 this season, the only goal was to score enough points to qualify for Germany. Ingemann Vesterå and Hipólito Sartorelli worked hard, the former even earning a top-9 at the Alpe d`Huez Classic. We brought in the legend Hugo Boemans, who was happy to work primarily as a leadout, to bolster our sprinting team. We trained some younger Brazilian sprinters too.
But it was the leader, Childers, who scored most of our points. He struggled to get results after recharging his top form, but scored enough points to get a ticket to Germany. In the Tour, he won a sprinting stage and came 2nd on the other 3, not a dominant performance, but enough to see off his rivals and be crowned the best sprinter at the tour.
Then, basking in his success and knowing that his time at the team was coming to an end, he gave his all to try and win a second Nederlandse Tour, but a terrible performance in the prologue ruined his chances. He won the decisive hill stage which probably would’ve been enough to give him the overall win if he’d had an even half decent TT.
So now, it’s time for the team to move on. We need to focus on our roots and establish a new goal for ourselves: to make Brazil one of the strongest nations in cycling. It will be a long road to match our previous success, but it’s one that we are looking forward to. We have sold or retired all our foreign riders and are looking to a fresh start with an all-Brazilian team.
Season 56 will kick off with 3 Brazilian races, none of which have ever been won by a Brazilian. We’re going for break away results, but we’re hoping that one day, we will have a team strong enough to win them.
As for future targets, just winning a race with an all-Brazilian team would be a great start. We know that we will drop to a lower division, but we’re happy to leave behind the grind of staying in division 1.
The Childers transfer is sure to go down as one of the best-value transfers in history. We bought him for $870k as an already trained 22 year old. We sold him for $1.4 million and earned almost $1 million with him from races. He achieved 65 results and won 23 races in 6 seasons.
We wish him just as much success in the future.
Finally: a special mention for Rubert Smidt, our first ever trained rider, who retired today. Smidt should have been Brazilin (his adopted homeland), but a game bug made him Danish. He scored points in every single division between 10 and 1, and was instrumental in building our team’s success. He will become a trainer, to teach the next generation of Brazilian hillers.

Very nice to set a goal that - at the time - seemed very far away, but still reach it seasons later. I am sure you will soon compete to be the highest ranked one-nation team!
Congrats on winning that jersey and good luck with your Brazilian team! :-)
Awesome work! Good luck this year with your all-Brazillian team! :)
