What a season it has been for Holwerda Cycling. We had one objective: to win Nederlandse Tour. And yes, we have done it! We had three earlier attempts at winning it, with three podium places as outcome, but now homegrown rider Dirk-Jan Helwig has won our home Tour. And not only did we win the tour, we also won four stages, while we had never won a stage before. Three stages by Dirk-Jan and one by Mart Diepstraten. Mart helped Dirk-Jan in winning the tour by taking away the bonification seconds from the main competitor Hadley Childers. A real team effort.
Winning a stage in the tour also gave us the achievement ‘Tulip Fan’. :)
Apart from winning our tour, we have some other results we are proud of:
Highest ranking ever (12th).
Two best Dutch riders: Mart Diepstraten and Skyler Popken.
Skyler Popken winning three climbing races in Top Division and podium in Patryk Drozdowski Trophy Cup.
First GC attempt for Derek Joling at Vuelta de los Castillos, ending 4th, just outside podium.
