Holwerda Cycling had one real target last season: Nederlandse Tour. the main point was to lose some spots in the ranking to be able to signup for the tour. This meant we had to let of competitive racing for a part of the season.
But there was one tour where we wanted to see whether we could get a nice GC classification: Vuelta de los Castillos. Julian De Ruiter was well prepared with TF and we were hoping on a good result in the GC following a 4th place in GC of Germany Tour the season before.
It went very well, above expectations, with 2 stage wins and a lead in the GC before the final TT stage. Julian was pretty confident, but a stronger Angelo Deferme, Team Guy took the GC overall win. A second place is still somethingg to be proud of though.
The Nederlandse Tour started of well with a second place in the TT for Dirk-Jan Helwig. In the sprint stages the sprinters were taking time back, but we hoped for a good result in the hilly stage. A second place was pretty good, but Hadley Childers, Time Indaiatuba was unleashed and took the win in the stage and in the GC.
This means we will have to get back to win it. With the podium in the GC there is a wildcard. We will be using it and next time Mart Diepstraten will be in the mix as well.
Given the one goal in the season, it was quite dissapointing, especiallly Skyler Popken not being able to captain that much.
The next season will be quite the same, although we can now be higher in the ranks to be able to participate in Nederlandse Tour. Perhaps we will hunt some GC results in Vuelta and GT as well.

Still pretty nifty results for Dirk-Jan and Julian, there's always a disappointment when one's targets can't be achieved but still reason to be proud. Keep up the good work!
Hope you have some more luck with your goals next season! At least, you do not have to drop on purpose for NL, which makes the rest of the season more interesting
