TULCEA, ROMANIA.
It's been an unusual couple of days for Hamlin Deville and his teammates of battling Visit Cornwall PCT. Without a result in many weeks, things didn't seem positive for the Cornish cycling team when bus driver Frasier Magee crashed into a bollard at Bucharest Airport.
Magee was breathalyzed by Romanian police. Visit Cornwall are investigating the incident, although a team insider suggested that Mr Magee had enjoyed "at least a Guinness or three" before take off at Stansted Airport.
Like a true top pro, Deville was unfazed. Pipped on the line by Will Izzard, the experienced Cornishman claimed his best ever result in Division Six with his second place in Eastern Romania.
Before boarding a flight to Detroit, Deville spoke of both pride and frustration.
"It's been nice having a breather after a difficult start to the season. I've returned to racing fresh and I feel like I've hit top form at a good time."
"I nearly had it today. I know I need to impress with results to keep my place as the team's top sprinter."
"Edgar Grandin has come in and his experience is well known. He wants to win his first career race. But he'll have to work for me while I'm in this form!"
Grandin and Deville join forces in Detroit, with the Cornishman expected to be the captain after Grandin's struggles in his first races since joining two weeks ago.
