MOCK SIMULATION OF COPPA DELLA FAMIGLIA DEL DON (Tour de France 2019, PS4)
NOTE: Results may differ from actual results ;) *for entertainment purposes only*
Also note: I’m playing as Division 3’s lastplace1414 and aim to play the role of omnipresent observer (but I also might not be able to resist some fun).
Stage 1 - Lorent > Quimper - 211 km
64 km left - The breakaway, which have refused to work together and have continually attacked each other (my fault, for sitting on the back with Drake Garcia?), are caught. True to OCM form, this thing had no chance (most of the time).
22 km - Costel Rogojan (WonderDee) and Hipolito Sartorelli (Time Indaiatuba) push the pace up a cobbled Cat-3, creating a small advantage (~15”) over Mohamed Ashour Buzbeda (Lots o Huggin Bear) and Zami Che Omar (Designa Legends). The leading group contains 14 riders, including me. WonderDee has 5 of those riders. A 36-rider group from the splintered peloton sits 44” back, so some regrouping can be expected.
11 km - trackstah07 duo Ethan Bird and Anastasio Samper lead a group of 35 riders up the penultimate Cat-4. I outsprint them with Kerrian Gervais for a single KOM point, but I am proud nonetheless.
6 km - Sartorelli again lifts the tempo. Francesco Joinoe (mapei bianchi) gets dropped! The lead group is down to just 24 riders.
The finish is 24-man bunch sprint among mostly climbers. The winner is Santino Cacace!
Stage 1 Results:
1. S. Cacace (Nefal)
2. A. Samper (trackstah) +0”
3. P. Sivertsen (Grillo) +0”

8. J. Newman (WonderDee) +0”
9. Z. Che Omar (Designa) +0”
10. M. Zerbino (Time) +12”
(Technically, I cruised to 10th with Gervais at +0”, but we won’t count that.)

7. L. Hannity (Ello) +0”
8. J. Newman (WonderDee) +0”
9. Z. Che Omar (Designa) +0”
10. M. Zerbino (Time) +12”
Stage 2 - Albi > Toulouse - 166 km
12 km left - Thomas Buschmüller (Keegan) is the last of 5 breakaway rider to be picked up (not including me). They worked together today. Ultimately unsuccessful, but at least they tried.
2 km - The tempo is crazy! A bunch of guys are losing time today… strange, on a sprint stage. Bird, +46” GC), is losing more than a minute (but Samper and Aurel Kravchenko are safely in the front group). None of the highly placed GC threats seem to be in any danger, however.
0 km - The peloton pushed WAY too hard, too early, and allowed me to win the flat sprint with a climber. Lol (gimme ALL that XP). But let’s disregard that...
The [sort-of] winner is Gherman Cristache! (Wait… he has 29 SP. What’s going on? Yikes.) Anyway...
Stage 2 Results:
1. G. Cristache (Ello)
2. Z. Che Omar (Designa) +0”
3. P. Sivertsen (Grillo) +0”
4. S. Cacace (Nefal) +0”
5. L. Hannity (Ello) +0”
6. M Zerbino (Time) +0”
7. G. Petcu (Grillo) +0”
8. N. Maifone (mapei) +0”
9. J. Thislev (Designa) +0”
10. I. Murgan (mapei) +0”
Stage 2 General Classification:
1. S. Cacace (Nefal)
2. P. Sivertsen (Grillo) +0”
3. Z. Che Omar (Designa) +0”
4. L. Hannity (Ello) +0”
5. J. Thislev (Designa) +0”
6. L. Engelberg (mapei) +0”
7. R. Smidt (Time) +0”
8. M. Zerbino (Time) +12”
9. I. Murgan (mapei) +12”
10. H. Sartorelli (Time) +12”
Stage 3 - Pernes les Fontaines > Montagne de Lure - 149 km
143 km left - Samper (+36” GC) is attempting to bridge the gap to the breakaway, along with Costel Rogojan (+1’42” GC) and Bilal’s Filimon Giron (+3’34” GC). As all the guys in the breakaway are more than 5 minutes back in GC, this bridge attempt represents the first actual threat to the race leaders… The peloton sits at +1’09”.
139 km - Samper and his allies have successfully joined the breakaway, bringing it up to 10 riders (including me).
137 km - Race Radio tells me that Clodoveo Vega’s teammates (mapei bianchi) are “hunting down the counterattack” (Samper and Rogojan). The peloton is moving pretty well; the gap (+1’28”) has only grown by 3 seconds per kilometer over the past 6 km. Rogojan, ever the aggressor, is pulling the breakaway at 90% tempo.
135 km - It appears that Rogojan’s push was just the first of many among this group of glory boys who, like those before them, refuse to work together. It will be a long day in and out of the saddle for the breakaway.
109 km - Samper, who doesn’t care about sprint points, has been left a minute behind the rest of the breakaway, who have decided to cooperate. We’ll see if he can get back on, riding solo through crosswinds.
90 km - Samper (+1’39”) has not managed to close the gap.
62 km - Samper has been pulled back into the peloton (+3’13”). Rogojan is currently the virtual leader (Coppa winner!) by *1’31”... like, if the pivotal stage is unexpectedly stopped for impassable hail and mudslides or something. Heh. *Thank goodness for the dollartimes calculator… adding negative time + positive time mentally is not easy :)
47 km - I’m sitting feebly on the back wheel of Rogojan with Avelino Fraga (89 CL). Zami Che Omar’s Designa Legends are determined to pull back the gap. They’ve made up about 10 seconds over 15 km; I suspect that they’re just saving it for the Cat-1 summit finish. Samper has, very sadly, been dropped by the peloton. He gravely miscalculated his efforts on this stage. He might lose 8 to 10 minutes by the end of it.
44 km - Stray observation: Yemelyan Desyatkov (Peloton Pushers), a cobbler who can’t climb, somehow lost 37’12” on the first two stages without finishing outside the time limit, and today he’s another 6 minutes back. I guess the local papers in Russia weren’t kidding when they asserted that he would set a record in the inaugural Coppa.
43 km - I’ve officially cracked on the Cat-3 Col de la Mort d’Imbert. This game’s hard sometimes.
25 km - Omar attacks just before the summit of a pretty ordinary Cat-3, blowing the peloton to pieces! Buzbeda and Santino Cacace follow! They’re on a mission to catch Rogojan, whose virtual lead is down to just 13 seconds! I try to follow with Gervais, but my attack bar has run out… time to settle in at a consistent pace and eat the red energy gel…
20 km - 11 riders have regrouped on the minimal descent; Il Grillo has a Rogojan of its own, and this one (Costel’s younger brother, Juri) is pacing Peder Sivertsen! Could Sivertsen be today’s victor? He’s the only man in this group with a dedicated worker bee.
Also 20 km - trackstah07’s Lucas Hornung and Max Kvam are pedaling pleasantly together in the 17th group on the road; I wouldn’t have it any other way. Those guys are pals. Also, Desyatkov has now lost 13 minutes.
14 km - We’ve hit the final climb of the day, and Costel and Cristache are the only leaders left (Can we just pause and appreciate that Romanian riders are dominating la Coppa?). The rest of the breakaway look to be food for the big boys, who still have a considerable gap to make up. In fact, the gap is growing! Will Costel win the day? The irony of Juri pulling the chasing group up the mountain is overwhelming.
12 km - Costel and Cristache have fallen back to the group of Calvino Motolinía (Abelixe), Laurend Bosmans (PegasusFlights), Donald Minca (yes, also Romanian) of Time Indaiatuba, and Filimon Giron. Perhaps they’ll have strength in numbers. The gap to the group of favorites is +2’38”.
10 km - Juri Rogojan’s work is done for the day. The elite group now includes: [me as Gervais], Sivertsen, Buzbeda, Omar, Murgan, Cacace (Nefal), Vega, Lincoln Hannity (Ello Ello), Daniele Gatto (Schiavi di Don), and Wincent Pilarski (Rigana). Sivertsen is now leading the group. Meanwhile, Giron is now leading up front! Costel is falling back.
7 km - Omar attacks! Dreadfully, Murgan and Vega are dropped on the same attack! Perhaps they can work with Hannity to reconnect.
6 km - Costel Rogojan can sit up and wait for his brother. He’s been caught by the group. Murgan and Hannity have battled back to it; Vega still trails by 15 seconds.
5 km - Sivertsen attacks, unsuccessfully. The group slows to a crawl, every rider wary of possible counterattacks. Clodoveo Vega manages to tack back on.
3 km - Sivertsen tried to attack again. Omar and Buzbeda not only pulled it back, but went on by. Omar has lifted his tempo to 100%. Buzbeda and Gervais (shoutout to me, amirite) are the only riders on his wheel; Gervais is very close to cracking. Only Biron and Motolinía stand between this group, a stage win, and a Coppa win. 38” over 3 km...
2 km - As Omar catches and passes Giron, he takes off. The man is July ‘07 Contador. Gervais has cracked. Buzbeda has cracked.
1.5 km - Sivertsen has come back! Omar already has 22” on him, but he’s now in second place on the road and is pushing hard. Pilarski looks to be following…
500 m - Omar has a 6” lead on Sivertsen and Pilarski; the next group is 38” back… it’s a 3-man race for glory!
The winner is Zami Che Omar!
Stage 3 Results:
1. Z. Che Omar (Designa)
2. P. Sivertsen (Grillo) +7”
3. W. Pilarski (Rigana) +7”
4. C. Motolinía (mapei) +35”
5. S. Cacace (Nefal) +43”
6. C. Vega (mapei) +43”
7. F. Giron (Bilal) +43”
8. M. Ashour Buzbeda (Lots o) +53”
9. L. Hannity (Ello) +1’09”
10. D Gatto (Schiavi) +1’54”
116. A. Samper (trackstah) +15’38”
FINAL General Classification:
1. Z. Che Omar (Designa)
2. P. Sivertsen (Grillo) +7”
3. W. Pilarski (Rigana) +23”
4. S. Cacace (Nefal) +37”
5. C. Vega (mapei) +1’03”
6. L. Hannity (Ello) +1’07”
7. M. Ashour Buzbeda (Lots o) +1’13”
8. D. Gatto (Schiavi) +2’14”
9. I. Murgan (mapei) +2’41”
10. F. Giron (Bilal) +4’15”
67. A. Samper (trackstah) +16’12”
Hopefully I’ve calculated GC time gaps correctly; the game uses top-3 time bonuses by default, with no option to turn it off :p
Anyway, this was a lot of work but was also very fun. Hope you guys enjoy :)
My actual prediction to win the actual Coppa… Zami Che Omar ;) GL, everyone!

@Don "oops"
Thanks, guys. I'm glad that you like it! Yeah, I'll definitely do more :)
The menu and editing are so laggy that I probably won't add or remove any teams (so it won't be perfect for every race); however, I do plan to update these rosters regularly :)
Very nice! Fun read :)
This is fantastic. I think I would take these results, a couple of top 9s. But I'm a bit disappointed with my team on the final stage. You're going to do more of these right?
incredible
Well, looks like somehow the jury forgot to mention that my riders were actually the winners of all stages, 1-6. How strange and unfortunate for them. They will get a nice fishing holiday as a reward.
It seems like the meta on that game is CL+FR (HL helps, then all the rest is very secondary). I've been loving it :)
Absolutely love it and hope you are right :-)
I played *a lot* of Cycling Manager and Pro Cycling Manager back in the days.
