So far Spin Doctors have avoided prolonged periods of stagnation and points and prize money has been fairly consistent, but the challenges of division 1 appear a little too much for us just now. Not helped by a period of rest for Kyle Wyles in preparation for another shot in the Netherlands later this season we have found our current team (without its biggest talent) struggling to bring in significant success at the top level.
Norwich-London was probably too windy for Sherlock Toll but a 13th place with a fairly standard performance feels a disappointment calling for a change in approach. The current squad is probably a lead out or two short of a top level lead out train. With that in mind, new talent is coming through to replace the ageing Casper Snoots for whom we hope a future role as a trainer awaits.
Bud Haavardsholm and Heathcliff Hoxter plainly don't have the ability to contribute at this level.
Garret Rourke isn't getting any younger, but along with Kirby Abner, Sherlock Toll and Kyle Wyles forms the nucleus of the team.
The current plan is to finish off training Kirby Abner who can still improve on the hills and to train Ridley Oboyle and the soon to arrive
Roger Storkson. With those riders to train we should have a better chance in division 1, but how we afford training them with any prize money is anyone's guess. Sherlock Toll will probably have a period of rest and recharging now, as the benefits of him continuing to race seem limited with a lack of particularly suitable races coming up. A dip down into division 2 would be welcome, but that will have to wait until the mid-point of the season at the earliest.
