Breaking News!!! Brooke Wilbur Retires!!!
One of England's all time best cyclists has called it quits.
This certainly is very big news (and very sad news) for team Super Velo! Brooke Wilbur, who recently turned 36 years old has announced his retirement.
Wilbur spent 15 seasons as a professional cyclist with the last 13 seasons being with Super Velo. Brooke will be a trainer for Super Velo where he will specialize in the training of young riders in most if not all cycling disciplines.
Wilbur holds many records for Super Velo, one of which is the highest rider average ever produced by the team at 55 avg. Whether that mark will ever be reached by another Super Velo rider is highly doubtful.

Brooke's palmares are quite extensive as he had 22 results which include 6 career wins with Super Velo. In addition to the results Wilbur rode for England's National Team 10 times. He raced as captain or team mate in 291 professional races 255 which were with Super Velo. If you count the 10 races he participated in on the World Tour then Brooke's total number of races jumps to 301 which really is remarkable.
Brooke Wilbur served as team captain and then team mate where he specialized in not just one or two race disciplines, he specialized in them all. He was actually a very good tour captain! He raced and was very proficient in tours, classics, sprint races, the hills and even in the mountains when needed. In-addition, he served as captain and mentor to young riders in time trial races later in his career.
In the 300+ professional races that Brooke partook in he scored points in 56 races. He scored points in almost 20% of the races he was in and this is extremely impressive simply because his time as Captain was limited to maybe 6 or 7 seasons out of 15.
Brooke wore England's National jersey on several occasions in his career with his best season being season 31 where he finished 37th in point scoring in the world!
Season 31 was hands down his best season as a professional. In addition to placing #37 in the World he had 14 races where he scored points with 2 wins and 6 total results. In addition to that he raced for the England National team 5 times that season.
Theres no disputing that Brook Wilbur was an exceptional cyclist but he was also a Super Star and the best rider ever produced by his team!
Brooke will sorely be missed on the road in the coming seasons simply because his coach McSmyt will no longer be able to call on him when a result or team points are needed. However, Brooke will remain with the team as a trainer where he will ensure future cycling stars are being produced by the team. Plus he will still be able to keep an eye on McSmyt to make sure that the manager doesn't screw things up too badly...
Three cheers for Team Captain Brooke Wilbur, may he enjoy his retirement from his beloved team and sport while continuing his great work for Super Velo!!!
