Each year, the residents of the microstate of San Marino and the surrounding area prepare themselves for the biggest cycling event in the nation, along with Il Giro di San Marino. Serravalle - San Marino is an epic 131 kilometer long cycling race with a rich history and a legendary finish in the historical center of San Marino.

The race starts in Serravalle, one of the nine ‘Castelli’ of San Marino, and the most densely populated municipality of the county. From Serravalle, the cyclists ride the first 40 kilometers through Italy, after which the race goes straight to the historic center of San Marino, where the riders must face the Monte Titano for the first time. After this, the race contains a loop through the south of the small country, which includes more steep climbs with the Monte Carlo (not to be confused with Monte Carlo in Monaco) and the Monte San Cristoforo, which is known for its very steep and tricky descent.

The race finishes back again on the top of the Monte Titano, with a climb that goes through the historical center of San Marino. Here, the riders will pass many historical landmarks like the Basilica di San Marino, the Palazzo Pubblico, and the Statua della Libertà, the San Marinese version of the Statue of Liberty. At this point, only the strongest riders in the race remain, and we usually see a lot of action and attacks happening on these narrow steep roads, with every rider trying their best to be the first one to reach the top of the Monte Titano.

Overall, Serravalle - San Marino is usually won by strong climbers who are not afraid to take some risks during the tricky descents included in this race, and each year, the winner receives a free bathroom renovation alongside his prize money in a promo stunt from a local bathroom renovating company.
