In front of the famous Bullring from Santarém, where man is used to fight against the beast, the riders start their own fight for the win.
The first 20 km consist of long flat roads where an breakaway group should easily form itself. When we reach this spot, the party begins. "Serra Minde" is the appetizer for the rest to come. Its 2 km at 9% shall provide the opportunity for the riders to understand how their daily form is.
Near "Alvados", we have our second mark of the race, the climb to the "Grutas de Alvados” with 1,8 km at 10%. The sprinters must be well protected to avoid falling down the peloton if they want to fight for the win.
The final difficulty is the climb near "Porto de Mós" to "Pragosa" with 2km at 20%. With just 20 km to the line and just some small slopes to cross, this will be the last chance for the puncheurs to launch an attack to try to break the peloton apart.
Ourém's Castle can be reached by 2 different ways. One is through Ourém itself on a very technical approach with a final climb with 2 km at 10%, the other is across the religious city "Fátima". On this second option, the rider's won't need to climb any hill nor to face any hard turn. The organizers decided to choose this 2nd approach to allow the remaining sprinters to fight on a long hard sprint for the victory.
When riders reach the castle they shall feel the same joy that soldiers felt before when they won many battles protecting the city. Who shall be the next winner?
