Read moreThe Ronde van Zuid-Holland offers one of the best possibilities to get to know Holland. The organisation has tried to show everything this most densely populated province of The Netherlands has to offer, making it a very prestigious race where only the best riders will meet.
The riders will be sent away from the Erasmusbrug in Rotterdam, the biggest city of Zuid-Holland, famous for its modern market hall and its harbour, which is indeed the biggest of Europe. Passing through these impressive harbours, the peloton will head for one of the islands of the province, the Hoeksche Waard, where the wind will play a big role. Dordrecht is the next big city, known for its beautiful old city centre. Probably the most famous attraction of the day is Kinderdijk with its characteristic wind mills. This fabulous site will be passed after about 75 kilometers of cycling.
Hereafter, the riders will once again make a tour through Rotterdam, passing the Erasmusbrug and the strange Cube Houses. Riding over the typical Dutch dikes through many green pastures, the Hollandsche IJssel will be followed until Gouda, the city of cheese. The cyclists will be sent right through the old city center with its great Sint-Jans-church and city hall. Following many flat roads once again, first the Gouwe will be followed to Alphen aan den Rijn, the old Roman castellum Albanianae. Small, winding roads through the green countryside will lead to the university’s city Leiden.
From here, it’s only 20 kilometers or so to the great finishing in The Hague. Maybe the wind will cause some chaos during the last drive to the Parliament’s city, but the long, straight roads between the city of the rich, Wassenaar, and The Hague will set a great scene for a tremendous battle between all the top sprinters of the OCM world. It’s next to the Malieveld where everything will be decided, before the winner will be honoured on that same great field.
