Poznan began as a stronghold built in the 8th century next to the Warta river, on what is now called "the Cathedral Island". The St. Peter and St. Paul Cathedral, which is the oldest church in the country, contains the tombs of the first Polish rulers, Duke Mieszko I and King Boles?aw I Chrobry.

Local governement took the opportunity to promote this historical and beautiful place by organizing a race called simply Poznan - Poznan. The start usually takes place in front of the Cathedral and then the race leads through several small towns around Poznan like Bnin or Giecz, which were the main settlements at the very begginig of Polish history. To make the finish more interesting, the final 4 km are being raced at the Poznan Motor Racing Track.

In addition to the usual trophy, the podium winners get a handful of locally produced Saint Martin Croissants with white-poppy seeds and crushed almonds, just to make their life even more sweet!
