Portugal itself was only recognized as a country back in 1143.
"Ponte de Lima" is named after the long medieval bridge that passes over the Lima river that runs next to the town. This bridge was very significant back in the Roman Empire due to the connection between Braga and Santiago de Compostela, two of the biggest cities in the region back then.
And it is exactly on that same bridge that the course finds its finish line. But let's start from the beginning. The race starts in "Bouça de Cima" merely 5 km away from the finish line. The course quickly heads in the direction of "Moreira de Geraz" through the tight roads inside the small villages "Barral" and "Seara".
At this point, the riders meet the Lima river during 6 km on a long flat road. After this the course enters Ponte de Lima for the first time with super tight corners. The technique is vital throughout the course.
When we reach "Regedouro" the riders have a small hill with no real importance and start they approach to the finish line. There is no time to rest, nor to lose the concentration. The final roads have once again very tight corners and the bridge entrance is also super technical. After that last corner, the riders go along the 300 meters from the bridge to finish the race and enjoy a deserved rest on the riverside.
Cássio Câmara won the inaugural edition making the home fans super happy! Who will be the next rider winning?
