After a short tour through the town, the peloton heads in a southwestern direction along Ruta 8 Brigadier General Juan Antonio Lavelleja.
Near Piedras de Afilar, where the road heads slightly uphill, the riders turn onto Ruta 9 Coronel Leonardo Olivera, which takes them to the Atlantic coast near Solís. From here it’s due west along a completely flat terrain through San Luis and La Floresta across the Arroyo Solís Chico and the Arroyo Pando to Ciudad de la Costa, the third most populated city of Uruguay. Along the beautiful Rincón de Carrasco, a 16-kilometer-long sandy beach, the strongest men will try to shake off the opposition if the wind blows in a favourable direction for echelons.
After crossing the Arroyo Carrasco, the sprinters will be brought into position by their lead outs for the final 27 kilometers of coastal roads to the finish line in Montevideo, which is drawn on Plaza Independencia, next to Artigas Mausoleum, where the remains of General Artigas are guarded by the famous Blandegues de Artigas.
