Before the race, the riders can visit the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption , built in Gothic style between the 13th and the 19th centuries.
The organizers decided to create an open race, which would normally be suitable for sprinters and puncheurs. Generally flat, the race has a hilly part in the middle as it passes through the "Parc naturel régional Livradois-Forez". The first climb is "Les Gorcias Climb" (2.38 km, average 5.5%, 131 m elevation gain), followed by "Montée du Col de la Loge" (3.61 km, average 5.1%, 187 m elevation gain). Finally, "Pont La Pierre - Courreau" (3.83 km, average 5.8%, elevation gain 223 m). After this part there are still 50 km to the finish line. Normally you only drop in the hilly part if you have a off day. This part is always used by sprinters with better hill habilities to test their opponents.
The last 20 kms are not 100% flat, always with a slight gradient up and down, but the last 5 kms are flat. After all, there are no steep climbs near the finish, so winning alone is almost impossible, unless you try to attack in the last km, wich is always hard as the speed is high.
The race finish in Saint-Étienne, normally with a group sprint, the question is wich group? The original break-away, late attackers or a bunch sprint?
