Haugesund is a young town only dating back to the middle of the 1800s when the city grew out of the herring industry. The herring is long gone, but the city's maritime ties are still strong with shipping and ship building playing an important part.
The race starts in Haugesund and travels south on the eastern side of Karmøy until reaching the southern tip and the idyllic village of Skudeneshavn. After tackling the narrow roads of the village, the race heads up north again. This time on the west side where the winds coming directly in from the North Sea can break up the peloton into smaller groups.
Some steep hills on the route can make it a challenge for the pure sprinters to be in the leading group when the race is finished with five laps in Haugesund. Here everything will reach a climax in a technical sprint where the winner takes home the trophy inspired by the Norwegian Movie Festival held in the city.
