Coming close to ticking off one of the big team goals in Roubaix yesterday I thought I’d do a short overview of where we are and where we are going. Our goal is to win every division 1 tour, cup and classic. So far we have notched wins in:
Tours
Germany Tour
Nataniel Viloca S55
Classics and World Championship
World Championship
Iosif Murgan S54, Honori Borrell S56
Alpe d’Huez Harold Coosemans S50, S52
Zürich-Bern-Zürich
Harold Coosemans S54
Critérium La Provence
Nataniel Viloca S56
Antwerpen – Huy
Roland Van Wontergem S53
Astana GP
Roland Van Wontergem S52, S53, S56
Helsinki GP
Hugo Boemans S48
Cups
Patryk Drozdowski Trophy Cup
Harold Coosemans S48
---
So that leaves the following races left to win in prioritized order:
Vuelta de los Castillos
The biggest remaining goal is definitely the Vuelta. The plan for the next few years is to race it with Kody Truman as he has been close before finishing on the podium. At 27 he is now approach his prime and should be well positioned to fight for the orange jersey. If Kody can’t seal the deal, other alternatives down the road will be Diogo Carneiro or Radoslav Dechev who is joining the team at the end of this season.
Norwich - London
The remaining sprint classic left to win might be one of the toughest in the game with Team AEK holding a firm grip on the race. We have invested significantly in the team to field a competitive squad by bringing Bernard Wakit (236 sprinter with a 93-83 SP-TQ combo) and Ano Koppala (SP233, 96-75) on board for 1.2 million each. Ano will get the nod in season 57 and 58 before Bernard takes over from season 59.
Roubaix Classics
Amare Maharjan came very close this season finishing second with a mechanical issue. With Amare turning 25 this season and Daley Yankowski also on the roster, we should find a way to grab the last remaining cobbles classic.
Tweedaagse van Antwerpen
Another race were we have been close. Last with Amare finishing second in the GC and winning the YC again last season. He is entering is last year of YC eligibility this season and should have a solid chance of repeating and fight for the overall win. Daley should also get a few attempts at TVA in the coming seasons as Antwerpen is a natural target for Amare to win during his career.
Bergen Rundtur
Norway’s classic and our history coming up as a hill team should have put this race high on our list of goals, but as of now it is not a main focus. Giulio Picariello finished third last year and will get one more chance this season before he is heading to the transfer market.
Copa Salsa de Cali
Not a big priority for us. As of now it appears most likely that the first serious attempt will wait until
Essex Tour
No clear plan for this one other than to luck into a result with Giulio Picariello or Kody Truman. Essex probably needs to be tackled by doing a team overhaul together with Bergen down the road.
