RotM #19 - Preview and Report

Written by Mescla at 23:10 24/10-2015

  The preview and report of the RotM, updated after every stage.

  Our second tour, not many expectations. We are gonna try to get a top 9, best chance in stage 2. The rest..., breakaway all day. Let's put our riders faces in tv.

  Goals:
  Top 9 - In a stage (Overcame)

  Squad
  Norway Morten Holen - Captain
  Portugal Fabrício Lobato
  Estonia Oleg Kangor
  Czech Republic Adrian Kopecký
  New Zealand Denny Morrow
  São Tomé and Príncipe Kim Zeus

  Pre-Race - Favorites(GC):
  *** Boys San; Herens Cycling; Twente Cycling Team
  ** Brigata; MOVISTAR KELME TEAM; Team Stekke
  * Siete Villas; SolenTechnology; AusGo

  Pre-Race - Favorites(SC):
  *** Bing Team; Broken Chain; Cycling and kebab
  ** Flanders Fields; Official Hooligans; Valerie Pro Cycling Team; BCTeam
  * Mescla; GQP 76rs; gabbo e bacardi

  Pre-Race - Favorites(YC):
  ***Twente Cycling Team; Herens Cycling; Boys San
  ** AusGo
  * Celtic Wolves; Dodge; Blues Racing

  Stage 1
  Overview: Three teams and one of the biggest favorites make noise in the opening stage. BCTeam, AusGo and Bing Team all put more than 1 rider in the top 9. The Italian team has 4 top 9's including the win and 3rd place!
  Only two GC riders in the top 9:Boon uses his TT to gain precious time against the much stronger climbers, while Malcolm Waltz impresses with a 9th place. The Irish is currently the favorite at the bookies.

  Team:Holen tried his best for a top 9; the competition was too strong. We hope to do better tomorrow.

  Result:
  1st - Italy Ermanno Expositi
  2nd - Australia Willem Boon
  9th - Ireland Malcolm Waltz
  18th - Norway Morten Holen

  Stage 2
  Overview:Schjønnemann takes an important victory in the first sprint stage. Cao Huixiong lost by half a wheel, shaking his opponent hand and telling him"this isn't over". All around, their fellow sprint rivals pierced them with burning eyes. These two may be ahead but there's still a lot that could happen.

  Team:Holen was able to get 5th place, he had good legs which were very useful since his train couldn't position him, making him do it all by himself.

  Result:
  1st - Denmark Erik Schjønnemann
  2nd - China Cao Huixiong
  5th - Norway Morten Holen

  Stage 3
  Overview:Edi Bacilieri former Champion, won the first mountain stage. He catapulted himself to 3rd place less than a minute out of 1st place, occupied by Malcolm Waltz.
  These two seem to be the clear favorites, but between them lays an Australian with some very good TT skills.
  One drunken man was screaming after the stage: "Don't sleep on Willem Boon!Don't sleep Willem Boon! Was it the booze talking or a divine prediction?!

  Team:A relaxing stage were everyone followed the race from our laptop in the car, with the exception of Lobato who had to try and show our team was trying.

  Result:
  1st - Switzerland Edi Bacilieri
  2nd - Ireland Malcolm Waltz
  17th - Australia Willem Boon
  96th - Portugal Fabrício Lobato

  Stage 4
  Overview:Leenpoels won the most coveted stage in aggressive fashion. The Belgium jumped to third in the GC, putting himself in the discussion, although it will be hard to win a 1'02" on the favorite Waltz.
  Malcolm Waltz besides having the time advantage, also has Roman Petrescu as a trainer. Petrescu knows stage 5 better than his own house, surely he will advise his successor. Still, Bacilieri won't give up that easily.

  Team:Another relaxing ride. Such a sunny day, except for Lobato, again. Morton Holen will try to get a good placing in the following stage, to warm up the legs for the final sprint.

  Result:
  1st - Belgium Arend Leenpoels
  2nd - Switzerland Edi Bacilieri
  3rd - Belgium Josef De Kelper
  5th - Ireland Malcolm Waltz
  94th - Portugal Fabrício Lobato

  Stage 5
  Overview:Malcolm Waltz puts the cherry on top. Twente Cycling Team continues it's RotM tradition, winning the climbing time trial for the 5th time! Bacilieri failed to make a last attempt, getting only a 12th place.

  Team:It was a bad stage for us, there weren't many expectations but we hoped for better than a top 70.

  Result:
  1st - Ireland Malcolm Waltz
  2nd - Australia Willem Boon
  12th - Switzerland Edi Bacilieri
  21st - Belgium Arend Leenpoels
  63rd - Estonia Oleg Kangor

  Stage 6
  Overview:The SC classification was sealed in the final stage with a win by Cao Huixiong. It is the first jersey won by BrokenChain.
  During the podium ceremony, there was an incident. Cao Huixiong and Malcolm Waltz were hit with various apple pies. The perpetrators were the Ultra-Nationalist terrorist group "Apple Pie Americans".
  Fortunately that was the end of it. Congratulations to the winners!

  Team:Second top 9 for the team, Morton Holen delivers in a stage were his hill abilities couldn't be put to use. He ends up in 7th in Sprinting Classification with 77 points

  Result:
  1st - China Cao Huixiong
  2nd - Norway Asgeir Øien
  3rd - Belgium Gustav Dewitte
  5th - Denmark Erik Schjønnemann
  7th - Norway Morten Holen

  Conclusion:The team knew it's was close to impossible to win anything or achieve a result. This took pressure of the team, enabling us to have a fun and enjoyable tour. We just wanted a top 9 to not come out of it empty handed. We even did one better.

  Team Numbers:
  Norway Morten Holen - 7th SC / 73rd GC

Mescla at 16:08 30/10-2015
  Yup, it's the big goal of the season.
  Maybe I'll sign up for GdS, but I can't gain more than 150 points till FoW so, maybe not.

  Are you going? Cao would be good for a top 9, favorite for the win if he was TTcentered.

BrokenChain at 05:19 30/10-2015
