The next batch of lucky hopefuls are on their way to Portugal for the Volta Ao Porto, one of OCMs three grand tours, and we breakdown the GC and SC favourites below:
GC Preview:
The GC field is strong with reigning champ Pouh in prime shape and his eyes set on a historic four peat.
But it won’t be easy. Last year’s runner up, Lamont Fleitz of Spin Docs, will be out for revenge and former winner Van Groessen returns with one aim; crack Pouh in the mountains.
The mountains are also the friend of Portuguese climber Estevao Frogoso, whose climbing superpowers will get local pulses racing.
The | | start list also includes Peter Suhrbier, a perennial top 9 finisher, and the two pronged attack of Blomkvist and Bruane at TD Rockets.
The next gen of Volta contenders are in attendance this year too to battle for the YC. Newcomers Dale, Yin and Aberg have teams built around them and the list goes on, with Loken, Bell, Kere and Schribner also in the hunt!
Prediction:
1. Pouh
2. Fleitz
3. Van Groessen
4. Suhrbier
5. Dale (YC)
6. Blomkvist
7. Bin (YC)
8. Aberg (YC)
9. Buane
SC Preview:
It could be a two horse fight in the SC between a
| | former runner up, Nordin Pruischer of AGB, and a former stage winner, Mats Rosengren of The Great Outdoors.
There are others who will fancy this too and the pressure will be on Benedict Moutray to deliver after EEO left their GC specialist Wylie Headen at home.
Nikolaj Hjorth was sitting on his couch when he got a late call up for Skudehavnen CC to have another crack at the SC.
Espirito will be the home favourite in the sprints and could do something special in the national champs jersey if ciccioneverde can keep enough Pepsi on tap.
Prediction
1. Pruischer
2. Rosengren
3. Moutray
Good luck all!
