The Awards show - season 40

I end up adjusting my red bow tie and look myself at the mirror that´s in front of me. I am wearing a black suit and I am ready to go. I´ve got to admit I´m a bit nervous though. OCM Awards are peculiar in many ways. Mostly because of Don´s ideas. I still remember the hike that ruined my best suit. Or that cinematic with Don trapped inside a hotel. That gave me nightmares for months. Luckily enough, the last season was a very normal gala, in a nice theatre in downtown. Hopefully this year we´ll also be able to see who won the OCM Awards in a respectable place. I go out of my room in the hotel and jump into the taxi I called a few moments earlier. I give the cab driver the address and I close my eyes.
I feel the car stop a few minutes later and I open my eyes. I pay the taxi driver (hella expensive) and get out of the car, invitation in hand. I look in front of me. My jaw drops. I am standing in front of an abandoned theatre. It´s a wreck, hell, there are even bats around the wooden roof. A huge billboard raises “Moonlight Theatre” (Well, not really, the “m”, “l” and “r” are missing) I am not getting in there. I turn back, but the taxi is already gone. Damn it! I have no other choice. I sigh. I walk through that disgrace called “Moonlight Theatre” and find myself face to face with the ticket office. A fat dude that didn´t smelled like roses was sitting inside of it.

“Hey!” I said “Is it here for the OCM Awards?”
“Yo can´t read?” He answered pointing to a poster next to the door (well, it wasn´t quite a door since it was missing half of it) The poster read “OCM Awards Live!” I sighed. I gave the man my invitation. He took it with his hands full of Cheetos essence and gave it back. “You can come in.” I nodded giving an uncomfortable smile “I´ve seen you in TV”
“Yes. I´m a talk show host”
“Yah I know I ain´t stupid. Your show sucks. No one likes you.” He said. I gave him another uncomfortable smile and got out of his view. I entered the disgrace called “Moonlight Theatre” and made my way to the main hall. What a nice guy. As nice as his smell I would say. The hall was a decent place compared to the outside. But it had a weird atmosphere that cannot be described with words. A corridor covered with a red carpet and obscure wall enlightened with glass chandeliers all above the roof. The walls were covered with posters. I assumed they were from previous plays that showed in the theatre. “Nightmare in the Dark” read one. “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” read some other. “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Dracula” completed the list. What a nice place. At the end of the corridor there is one door. I open it and find myself in the main room. The stage is at left. It is full of tables with food and drinks. Many seats are already occupied.

I spot Patryk Drozdowski (He looks weird with earrings, long beard and bald. I prefer him with his usual short beard and long hair) speaking with Florian Ákos and Thomas Runge. There´s Hüsnü Dilmen with Ozgur, Gale Reason and Sal Dambrosio playing chess, Jan-Joost Dussel and

Frederick Longosiwa on a heated argument on who would be the best sprinter of all time (Fun fact: if Longo wins Best Old Rider he will tie Dussel for the most OCM Awards) Äme Anderberg and Sir Sandro Montelbano are playing poker with David Popescu and Buciu Alexandru (They look weird in those Romanian uniforms), Jonas, Nooky and Frank Holwerda are placing bets, ichti is quiet with Lúcio César and Minas Dadakos. I chose an empty table and await the Award Hamster to appear on stage. He did appear ten minutes later with Niccolo Mafia behind him.
“You guys didn´t really think we would make the awards here huh? The theatre is in the other side of the city. Let´s go!” He jumped of the stage and got out. We all were in shock but said nothing. We finally arrived to the designed theatre by Don Hamstre, and we were almost fainting. The theatre was way better than the previous one we had. I sat down in a table and waited.

“Okay, after this marvelous joke, let´s start with The Award for Best U23 Rider” The Don looked back and Niccolo Maffia gave him a blue envelope. “And the winner is…Jesse de Laat from Holwerda Cycling” I saw Frank and Jesse go to the stage and accept the award. They probably broke the record for shortest speech ever, they only said “Thanks :)”
“Now, The Sieuwerd Schimmel Trophy for Best Cobbler” Niccolo hands him another envelope “And the winner is…Gale Reason from Jonas Pro Cycling Team!” Jonas and Gale went up stage, and some riders (and managers) started crying things about old age and Alzheimer. Anyway, Foncho Reto won his fourth Gregory Levis Trophy for Best Time Trialer, tying the one whose name was given to the award for second most of them (Sir Sandro has five).
Alexander Hetland won The Truman Vancil Trophy for Best Hiller and Tor Overland won the Best Downhiller Award.

After the Best Downhiller award, we had a small break, preceding the prestigious Jan-Joost Award. I went to the dessert table and found myself with Patryk Drozdowski, Florian Ákos, Minas Dadakos, Lúcio César and Hüsnü Dilmen. They were arguing who would win the most important award of the gala: the Äme Anderberg Award.

“I´ve got a huge shot” Said Hüsnü
“It´s clearly not you Hüsnü, you´re not even in Top Division” said Minas Dadakos
“I hope it´s not you either, you copied my old haircut and beard!” Said Droz.
“Well, it’s not my fault if now you look like Bruce Willis with beard and earrings” Replied the Greek sprinting machine
“Hey guys calm down!” Said Florian Ákos. “It´s between the Indurain guys. Me and Droz”
“Well I´ve got 3 green jerseys, but you got none wince Droz is the favorite of your manager and you never got a shot to try”

After this brief argument, we were all called back to sit. Lúcio said nothing… weird. Jan-Joost Dussel got to the stage and announced the winner of his award…Minas Dadakos! The Sterling Dorsher Award for Best Climber was taken by Lúcio César. Hüsnü

Dilmen won The Elias Márquez Trophy for Best Tour Rider, which was well deserved after his historic season.

Time for the old guys, as Gale Reason took his second award by winning The Ian Defley Trophy for Best Old Rider, although Frederick Longosiwa cried for a vote recount and Italian corruption. Guess you won´t tie Jan-Joost this season Fred. Sal Dambrosio from Nefal won his second straight Best Young Rider Award.
The Award for Breakthrough Rider of the Season was won by Jaspar Vandenbosch. Don Hamstre took the stage for The Award for Breakthrough Team of the Season, but apparently the envelope was empty.
Egil Horridge took The Award for Best Rider Outside Top Division, and we proceeded to a second break, before the most prestigious award of the season.

This time I found myself with the OCM legends, Sir Sandro Montelbano, Bongo Longo, Dussel, Äme Anderberg and Lean Ahnfeldt-Mollerup.
“Who do you think will win your award?” I asked the Swedish legend
“I like that Polish guy, but those earrings are ridiculous”
“May I suggest Dilmen, I like Tour riders” Said Sir Sandro
“Dadakos is my bet” Said Jan-Joost
“I´m going with Ákos” Said Longosiwa
  “Grmbl.” Said the Beast.

We went back to our respective tables, and Äme Anderberg took the stage. Niccolo Maffia handed the Don a golden envelope, and the Hamstre took it, and walked were Äme and the main microphone were.
“Nominees are Patryk Drozdowski, Hüsnü Dilmen, Florian Ákos, Lucio Cesar, and Minas Dadakos” Said the Awards Hamster. “The results are absolutely crazily tense, only 12 points separating 4th from 1st!”
“Dilmen scored 53 points and takes the third place!” Announce Anderberg
“Ákos 55 points and second place!” Said Don Hamstre
“But the winner is…” Nice suspense there Äme. “Lúcio César with 57 points!”
Well that was a huge surprise for everyone. Patryk Drozdowski and Minas Dadakos started insulting the Portuguese climber, as he headed to the stage to accept the most prestigious award a rider could ever receive. His speech was long and dramatic, so I´m not including it here.

The Award for Best Manager Outside Top Division was given to Ozgur Akman, after the huge surprise and trouble the Best Rider award gave. Next came the Best Manager award, the second most important award. And it was a tie! Between Jempie and Adilson Silva, with 55 points each. The last award was the Best WT manager, and Don gave it to Jaroslav from Denmark.

We enjoyed a nice afterparty, as soon as the Ceremony was over, but Don was nowhere to be found. Probably he was worried about possible mad managers and guests about the 50 km walk at 12 PM. Anyways, it was an award night to remember, and we are looking forward on what awaits us (please don´t be to cruel Don) next season.
