The Awards of season 39

That time of year again. The time for honoring the heroes of last season and making them a part of the history books. Don was obviously too for the heroes of S39 and couldn’t be bothered to say a couple of words, much like the live-show at the chat, where he was obviously in a hurry to spend some alone-time with his hands.

We started the whole thing by doing a trial-award, just to check that Don’s microphone was working. We tested with the u23-award and nearly a Freek won, but instead an American by the name of Tyson Jefferson won. He was a part of Cokol Breakaway Team in S39 and not only did he dominate the U23’s, but he even grabbed a classic win in Brebes – Brebes for the 2nd time in a row. We quickly moved on to a rigged category where Don wanted a fellow countryman to win, the Sieuwerd Schimmel Trophy for the best cobbler. In other words, van Brockorst and Loudon who finished 3rd and 2nd didn’t have a chance, as this award was marked for Andrea Camata. It is however true that Camata had a good season and snatched the award for the 3rd time! (Just like planned, right eh, Don ?)

Master planner Jonas preparing for the latest change done to cycling in OCM, for over 15 years, aiming for high-profiled riders. Finally starting to pay off and by that taking the Gregory Levis Trophy for best TT’er. Don managed to call out Cesario as the TT’er finishing in 3rd place even though van Hoegaerde had more points. Personal vendetta ? Probably. Against Gerrit or his manager ? Most likely the latter. As 3 awards had gone by and no Norwegians had won, it was about time. Team WonderDee abandoned his youth academy team to make the most out of this guy, and he was showing his worth all season. We are of course talking about Aleksander Hetland winning the award for Best Hiller, beating other Norwegian teams to get there. Van Bael in 2nd and Zenden 3rd.

Does this award not have a name? That’s just how much appreciation Don has for this kind of rider, the Downhillers. Yes, these guys like putting their junk the frame of the bike, instead of the saddle. And while we’re at it, another Norwegian team takes this award as well, Brent Meijeringh of Team Jubalon wins the nut-grinding DH-award! The former NT-manager of Norway really starting to make his mark in the DH-segment. Moving on to one of the more prestigious awards, former winners include legends like Tadaki Ko, Jan-Joost Dussel and Cadman Kantor. Yes, you’ve guessed it, we are talking about the award for Best Sprinter of S39. Two riders stood out among the rest, with Akos finishing 2nd with 70 points. Even more

impressive at 87 points, Silveira the MMA-cyclist wins his first award. Jonas’ 2nd award of the day. Obviously the crowd was in admiration of Jonas’ long planning and happy to see such careful planning finally paying off.

Don fell off the stage on several occasions, blaming someone named Peer, plenty of time for the crowd to take a breather, be social, have fun, joking around with the other OCM-managers. None of that took place though, before Don suddenly reappears on stage reading out the nominees for the Best Climber. His own rider, Orsino Lamattina made the podium for some reason (Gee, I wonder why). But not making the corruption too obvious, we had two giants duking it out over the two top spots in this category. Droz did win GT for the 5th time in his career, but it wasn’t enough. The winner is Jayden van Den Kroon! Taking the award back to the Netherlands, an award no Dutch team has won since S27!

Droz might as well keep on going with his silvermedals, this time for 2nd Best Tour Rider. Moving on to Best Old R…… Oh, the winner of Best Tour Rider ? Yes, it was obviously the annoying Farruco Alonso winning it for 5th time. He must be too old now though, right ? Fittingly enough that we’re moving on to best Old Rider. This category was rather uncontested this time around with the winner Bongo-Longo finishing well ahead of the rest who we don’t care to mention.

Enough about old hogs and depressive 30 year-olds, Best Young rider! Some really impressive riders in this category this season, making his convincing win an even stronger achievement. Not surprising in any way, considering he is Italian, just like another certain someone. Don takes good care of Sal and Dem Bro’s. Unfamiliar faces in the chat watching the Don’s award show with some unfamiliar nominees in the next category. Always refreshing to see some new names who has taken the step from being promising to performing as captains for their respective teams. Some impressive riders also in this category, with Marcio Fialho finishing 3rd after making it to top 4 in Tweedaagse. Even more impressive Kirby Abner finishing 2nd place after 5 stage podiums in GT and NLe. But neither was enough to beat Rashidi Namubiru. Not the brightest star, but one who came out of nowhere to finish top 10 in ocm overall rider ranking last season! Bet all the Africans cheered in front of their telly’s, U gan da it! Oh wait, can they afford TV’s ?

“Fucking Peer!”, someone falling off the stage whimpers, without mentioning names. No we’re not done yet, and Don curses his luck as there are still 6 more awards to go. More fresh faces and an award

dominated by Danish people ? Can this be ? The lesser Norwegians taking their turn in spotlight ? Might be rude to call them lesser, just because they forgot the blue stripes in the middle of their flag. Anywho, it was two Danish teams fighting over the two top spots, Aesop and Hilltup. And while both have done great job with their teams, making great progress since they started, only one team could win it. Was it me ? Obviously not, as I was never ever nominated for this award. Was it Hilltup ? Nope, cause he got outgunned by Aesop! Look out for these teams people! They are however Danish, so don’t be surprised if its just beginner’s luck.

Best Sp… oh wait, we already did that one. But this one could just as well have been another Best Sprinter award, as Skoglund, Brun and Abdulov and Lijun were among the nominees. Im not going to include the last nominee, as he was obviously bought into the nominees. It was a close call with only 6 votes to separate the mentioned Norwegian pair who has dominated races in the lower divs in S39. Winning 4 stages in Norway Tour and crushing the SC competition there, wasn’t enough as Skoglund takes it home! Another Norwegian win! Any Norwegian win is obviously well deserved.

A category filled with 5 previous winners from this night, we’re of course talking about the Äme Anderberg Trophy for Best Rider of the season. OH WAIT! Giggely giggle, obviously Droz didn’t win anything tonight and finishes as yet another 1st loser. Hetland with 3rd place on the podium, while the winner is …………. Armando Silveira! 15 years of careful planning, its all it takes! Jonas yelling from back of the crowd flexing his armpits.

For the 2nd time in a row, hhauge takes the category for Best Manager outside top division! Staying true to his horde of white Africans, another trophy going home to Burundi! With the last two categories to go, Don makes out with Peer for a final time for the evening, which was fine with everyone in the crowd, as we got a break from looking at Don himself.

Best Manager/Planner of the season, Jonas winning convincingly ahead of Jempie. Its actually Jonas’ first win in this category, believe it or not. Being around forever, I guess it was well deserved for a Dane! Some people applauds, mostly himself. As for the best NT-manager award, these tend to be won by one of the big nations, and this season was no exception, even though Frederik made it close by finishing 2nd! But the winner, also the winner of NT-ranking, it had to be Frank on behalf of the Netherlands!
And that concludes it for Season 39! Best of luck in Season 40! Disconnected by peer.
