With his father serving as an army officer and his mother managing the household, Faraji explored the streets and surrounding areas on his bike, fostering a love for the sport that would eventually propel him to international cycling scene.
It was during local races in Cameroon that Faraji's exceptional talent was first recognized. Scouts from Team WonderDee, a Norwegian cycling team, spotted his potential in Season 57 and extended an invitation to Europe, providing him with the platform and resources to hone his skills. His professional debut came at the GP Funen, a Danish sprint race, offering a stark contrast to the races he had competed in back home. Later that season, he played a support role for Norwegian Sondre Lunde at the U23 World Championships in Italy, gaining invaluable experience.
The following seasons saw Faraji steadily develop into a well-rounded tour rider, demonstrating prowess in both climbing and descending. His progress became evident in Season 59 with a top nine finish at the Polish race Bytom - Katowice. The next year, he showcased his climbing abilities with an 8th place finish in the challenging Nepalan race, Gateway to Sagarmatha.
A significant breakthrough arrived in Season 61. Faraji secured his first top nine placement in the general classification of a stage race at the Patryk Drozdowski Trophy Cup. This achievement was quickly followed by another strong performance, a 9th place in the general classification of the Vuelta de los Castillos, signaling his arrival as a serious tour contender.
The momentum continued to build, culminating in his first podium finish in Season 63. He took 3rd place overall at the Vuelta de los Castillos, a race that clearly suited his strengths. He further solidified his standing with a 4th place finish at the same race the following year.
The pinnacle of Faraji's career arrived in Season 65 with a resounding victory in the prestigious Germany Tour, the biggest tour on the OCM cycling calendar. This triumph cemented his place among the elite cyclists in the world. He demonstrated remarkable consistency, adding two more top nine finishes in the general classification of the Germany Tour in the subsequent seasons.
Faraji's last major result came in Season 69 with a 9th place finish at the Alpe d'Huez Classic, a gruelling French climbing race. His final race as a professional cyclist was the Trofeo Bajando a Granada in Spain. At the age of 36, Faraji Ekele retired from professional cycling, leaving behind a legacy of perseverance, talent, and remarkable achievements. His journey from the streets of Ngoa Ekélé to the summit of professional cycling serves as an inspiration to aspiring cyclists in Cameroon and beyond.
