Starting again from Valparaíso, only the first half of today’s stage features some hills. From the start on the boulevard, the break away will be formed on one of the many hills of the city. Cycling south and passing the beautiful reserve of Lago Penuelas, after 50 kilometres the last real hill of the day will be climbed. From here on, long, straight, and flat roads will lead through small, rural villages like Las Dichas, Casablanca and El Membrillo.
From Algarrobo, the Pacific Ocean coast will be the scene for the first and probably also last peloton sprint in this tour. A small hill from the beach of El Quisco might give some adventurous break-away’ers the impression of being able to get away, but on the broad main street of El Quisco, we will most likely see the sprinters battling for the stage win and maybe some important points in the Sprinting Classification. For the GC riders, it is important to watch the wind in this stage, which might cause some unexpected trouble occasionally.
