Timisoara is the main city of the Banat region, it has over 300.000 inhabitants and a booming economy, with very low rates of unemployment, educated labour force and a perfect position for trade. Timisoara is also a symbol of the liberty (it was the city that started the Romanian revolution in 1989), an important cultural and academic centre, and it will be the European Cultural Capital in 2021.
The race is organised as a circuit of 41 km that the cyclists will ride two times. It starts in the baroque-styled Piata Unirii (Union Square), crosses several of the many parks and gardens and then continues along the Bega channel before getting outside the city to the west.
The route goes around the city, passing by the villages Utvin and Sacalaz and then by Dumbravita, one of the richest Romanian territorial administrative units. The itinerary has no significant difficulty, as the organizers tried to make it better suited for all-round cyclists - meaning that the race will end sometimes in bunch sprints, other times in breakaways. The most rated cyclists will be favourites to get a result here.
The circuit ends in Timisoara, in Piata Victoriei (Victory Square), a large public space where the fans will admire not only the peloton but also the lovely Opera, the Orthodox Cathedral and the National Theatre. After the race, the peloton will need some rest before enjoying the active night life typical for any Romanian metropolis.
