The 89 km course starts in the town Cernavoda, known for its nuclear plant but also for the beautiful railway bridge erected across the Danube 120 years ago by the engineer Anghel Saligny. It then follows the national road to the town of Medgidia and to Constanta, the largest city in the region, with a population over 300 000. This road is parallel with the Danube - Black Sea channel - that will bring back to the oldest riders memories of the communist regime, because it was built with lots of sacrifices from the Romanian people back under Ceausescu.
There are no true difficulties during this boring ride to Constanta. Every now and then there are small slopes, not longer than 500 m and without more than 20-30 m of altitude, and there are no turns or corners that can favour the more technical riders. Therefore the expected outcome of this race is a bunch sprint right in front of the famous Casino building in Constanta city, erected on the shore of the Black Sea near the touristic port Tomis.
The sprinter teams will look forward to this race as there are few races flatter than Trofeu Constanta in Romania. The winner of the race will be decided by the sprinters' strength and positioning and of course by the quality of the lead out train, who will be very important for sheltering and launching the captains.
At the end of the day the tired riders will no doubt aim to relax in Mamaia Nord, the best Romanian beach with its fine sand, cheap beer and the relaxing sound of the small Black Sea waves.
