The outback town was surveyed in 1889 and took its name from the nearby Dingo Creek, with a bronze statue of a Dingo in the town commemorating the town's name.
The route itself winds through Taunton National Park, which homes one of last colonies of Bridled Nail-tail Wallabies (Onychogalea fraenata) which was considered extinct up until 1937. The park’s topography is reasonably even, with a gradual slope from the north and western ends towards the eastern and southern margins.
The climate of the region is subtropical and semi-arid with the 43km race against the clock favouring a time trial specialist familiar with the humid and hot conditions. The flat nature of the course won’t throw up many surprises and it will be the strong diesel engines powering through to the end who will occupy the coveted podium steps at the conclusion of the race.
