Tavira - Faro is 167 km long and not as flat as you might think.
Starting on the coastline next to the "Ria Formosa" in Tavira, the race heads 30 km inland to Loulé to approach the most interesting part of the race, the "Serra do Caldeirão", one of the few Mountain ranges in the South of Portugal. Small but steep hills such as "Barranco Velho", "Alcaria do Cume", "Rocha da Pena", "Pelados" and the climb to "Mú" will break the peloton apart with its slopes of 7% and 8% on very tight roads.
If this series of hills don't allow any puncheur to get away from the peloton, then the fast duo of hills "Cerro de Guilhim" (1,5 km at 13%) and "Cerro S. Miguel" (6 km at 7%) will be the last chance with just 20 km to the finish line.
Usually, the strongest teams are able to nurse their sprinter through this hills and the last 20 km are long enough to prepare the sprint train to the approach to the finish line on the Algarve's capital, Faro. But don't think it's a straight finish. Faro is a medieval city with narrow roads and tight corners as you can expect. Position in the remaining peloton will be vital for the final win. To help to increase the drama, the organizers included the 1 km climb from the "Rua General Teofilo" at 9% just 3 km from the finish line. Perfect place for final drama.
Anyone who manages to win this race will be able to write his name alongside names like Winfried Reinhold, Urbano Arzu, Otto Landa, Ely Henault, Michiel Pruijsers, Cao Huixiong and Drew Pancoast. Antão Salomão was the first ever Portuguese to win this race. It took 21 editions for a home boy to lift his arms and celebrate with the fans!
After the race, it's time to enjoy a cold beer and get to the beach!

Description
The terrain in Tavira - Faro hardly includes any climbs and has only easy downhills. The terrain includes an average amount of hills and has many flat and straight roads. The ending of the stage is an easy sprint terminated by the fastest rider in the leading group. The route is pretty technical.
