Situated on the banks of the Bulloo River it is 980 kilometres west of the state capital, Brisbane. Quilpie residents enjoy free access to many amenities including the town library, swimming pool, golf course, museum, sports grounds, an air-conditioned hall and supper room. There are well stocked stores and plenty of attractions for visitors with displays of opals and the works of local artists and as well as an information centre.
The route starts with riders heading out of town along Diamantina Developmental Road and at the 53km mark, they will arrive at the nearby Bargo Bargo Mountain range. At an average altitude of 306m above sea level this is where the climbs will start in earnest - expect the pure climbers in the field to come to the front and turn the screws on the peloton.
Although descending skills are important, the tough uphill finish makes it highly likely that it will be a climbing specialist zipping his jersey and raising his hands as he crosses the finish.

Description
The terrain in Quilpie Climbs includes many steep and hard climbs and has hard downhills. The terrain hardly includes any hills and has only a few flat roads. The stage ends on a tough climb. The finishing climb gets steep from time to time. The route isn't technical at all.
