Hemsedal GP takes off from the picturesque village, and popular cruise boat destination, of Flåm deep in the Aurlandsfjord. The first part is flat along the fjord, but the riders don’t have to wait long for the first challenge of the day. When reaching Aurland the route heads up to the mountains and follows Bjørgavegen to Lærdal.

The terrain in Hemsedal GP includes many hard climbs and has very hard downhills. The terrain hardly includes any hills and has no flat distances. The stage ends on a tough climb. The finishing climb gets steep from time to time. The route isn't technical at all.
