Epuyén Climbs

On the foot of the Andes, in Patagonia, this Division 2 race takes the riders from Epuyén in Argentina into the mountains. From the start line on Avenida Los Halcones, the riders head north and start climbing the Sierra del Maitén almost right off the bat. This undulating climb won’t rip apart the pack completely, but will be sure to stretch the non-climbers to their limits.

After 40 kilometers the race reaches El Maitén, on the banks of the Rio Chubut. Taking the RP6 west, the peloton descends from the plateau towards El Bolsón, where the final climb lies in wait. From here, 19,8 kilometers are left on the road map.

The climb starts next to Cascada Escondida, one of the many waterfalls in the area. Through the outskirts of El Bolsón, along the Rio Azul, the percentages aren’t staggering, but the length of the climb will start weighing heavy. The final ten kilometers uphill take the peloton to Cerro Perito Moreno, the local center for skiing in the winter. Today however, the strongest climber will reach de Refugio de Montaña first, instead of the fastest downhill skier.
