The terrain in Au bord du Lac Kivu includes many steep and hard climbs and has hard downhills. The terrain includes many tough and long hills and has no flat distances. The finishing of the stage is a very steep tough climb giving many possibilities for the best climbers in the peleton. The route demands a bit of technique from the riders.
