A lot has happened this past season in and around team Universal Soup in Season 54. Let us first shortly review our goals and then figure out what the hell happened.
We had a Talent to train, Giap Nam Mien had been in our Talent feature for a long time, so that we would be ready in optima forma once he got pulled. Having big expectations for this 200+ Hill Sprint rider (VG HL, Good SP, Small FR and AV TQ), we commenced training immediately using funds from our sponsors. First of all his HL maxed at a disappointingly low 80 points. To make matters worse, he then decided, after 9 FR points that he was done overall, barely reaching the 60 point minimum that every rider can train. So much for preparing in optima forma.
After this set back we decided to train 2 unmaxed riders that we still had laying around. Ho-Dac Ngoc Luan has his Climbing ability already maxed from earlier training endeavors, but had never reached his full potential. With small DH, Average HL and Average FR he had some potential to make it to a decent enough domestique or with luck even a tour rider. Hoan Nguyên Dat, was still untrained as there were better riders to invest in, or so we thought. He has Good CL, Small DH and HL and Good FR. He now maxed his CL and almost his DH and will continue his training in the near future. These riders were old, but with them we had almost two teams that we could race with. Why would we need two teams? Well that is a story for the other part of our review. Our goals and results for season 54.
Goals and Results
this is a list of our goals this season:
- Zell am See
- Tour of the Sanreizan
- Uttendorf - Matrei in Osttirol
- Rundt om Vejle (optional, depending on our position and need of points)
- Bali Classic
- end season 54 in the upper echelons of division 6 or low in division 5.
We had some accidental results racing with 6 captains, or even in practice where our team gained points when it was not expected. We know division 8, is division 8, but we did not expect to be gaining points this easily. Zell am See was a Victory so we took home the trophy. However, we got 4 results in that race, making us miss the Tour of the San Reizan and other various races. Unless we would do nothing but practice for another half season or so we were unable to compete in any proper race. RotM being too high ranked to reach fast enough, MRT already filled up too.
Our manager BrokenChain opened a poll for our PR subscribers to determine what to do next. Lay low, as said doing practice for half a season or just give it a go and see what damage we can do in the middle divisions. To get optimal results from our team we decided to train two more domestiques giving us a decent (CL)/HL team and an almost decent CL/(DH) ( we're still a man down ).
This two team system was new to the manager too, as he's always worked with small teams in the past and took some reconfiguration, but we found a nice formula it seems.
Que Nam Hong, our designated CL/DH captain had to miss out on all tour goals this season but still raked in 9 top 9's in div 8 - div 4 this season of which 3 results.
his most notable results are
Div 8: Zell am See - 1st
Div 4: AC Oporto - 3rd
Old, but gold is what they say and this certainly goes for good old Wang Tuan Lam. Raking up 12 top 9's from div 8 to 4 of which 6 were results and 5 of those were wins.
his most notable results are
Div 6: San Fernando - 1st
Div 6: Santa Cruz - Port of Spain - 1st
Div 6: Rovaniemi GP - 1st
Div 5: Hills of Love City - 1st
Div 4: Selfoss Hills - 1st
Despite not being able to pursue our goals of tours and classics in the lower divisions we did have our best season ever looking at the number of victories, results and points.
The ability of our riders to keep fighting against all the odds even propelled our team into division 3 on the last day of the normal season. Don't worry teams, we are not expecting to stay here long, however we did sign up for Copa de la Historia de los Andes, haha.
Since our plans changed so much the next few days will be used to set up a decent plan ( don't get your hopes up high, decent for us is still a low bar for others ) for season 55.
Time for Champagne!

That's a huge number of results btw. :)
You‘re very unfortunate with your trainees! :-(
Still a great job you‘re doing, all the best for season 55!
Yes, very disapointing for a youth product to end up that low. On the upside I'm so used to low maxers now, that one more doesn't change much.
Thanks, my hill team is quite nice but i'll need a HL helper soon too haha.
That is a low max for Giap. Very sad.
Nice job with the hill team!
