A special celebration party took place earlier today. Straight after the victory in Taiwan Vadimas and his team mates had a wee stopover in Dubai en route to France. Just enough time to reflect on the latest memorable wins and achievements.
The venue took place in the highest lounge bar at the imposing Burj Khalifa. We were not there by chance. In season 59 we started chasing down important landmarks as a team and soon (S60) we had Taipei 101 in sight during our very first charge on the local Black Bear. Now what only remained for us, some 12 seasons later, was to reach the heights of the Burj.
Like it was ment to be that glorious moment coincided with filling in the last major, if not only, two blanks in our palmares right in the heart of Taiwan where the hunt truly began. Vadimas sailed through the mountain stage like if he was enchanted and felt no fatigue. By doing so Vadimas not only won us the the last remaining CL-race in division one, he also secured the victory in the overall classification which we did not won before either.
There was more to celebrate as well. The crazy last 3/4th of a season brought us the much desired wins in Kenia (day 28) and Portugal (day 33) and to make things even sweeter wins in the two main tours Vuelta de los Castillos and Germany Tour. With TBBT added to the list we have won all three of them in one streak more or less.
Alot of team members actively contributed to the success in recent season(s) and with them the spirit was as high as its location. Even some former (old) team mates flew in to celebrate. All of them wanted to lift the glass on the panorame terrace, seeing what heights they achieved together while being a member of Team Oasis.
Yet it was not only time to look back. There is work to do to give Team Oasis enough flair in lets say 3 to 5 seasons time. Choices have to be made to rejuvenate some essential elements in our CL squad. Some team members themself wanted to look forward in a more pressing matter. Maxwell Clackmannan is one of them. He feels his contribution is too little and feels time has come to move on. "It was a mighty ship I sailed upon, but one that made my stomach turn over at times as well", he said.
Another one who raised his voice is Gyarmati Ákos, who openly debated a retirement from the downhill squad. He said his 'mission' is over and there are more important things in life. That made Mostefa Khozoaam, who knows he is running on his last legs, request whether he could fill in the role as DH guide for a wee bit longer.
We'll have to see is not only answer i gave to him, but also counts for the team as a whole. Changes will be coming. But first let us enjoy the wonderful moment we all created together!
