Fruitless as last season was, we opted for a new approach to the season. Global warming seems to increase temperatures, so it is a big plus if you can stand the heat. None of our riders did, as they all got used to the mild Dutch weather and the ever present aircon in their temple of retreat.
So we dropped the whole team in Dasht-e Kavir nearby our headquarters. Riders had to do various tasks, alone and together, in the scorching heat of the vast desert. The aim was to increase endurance under extreme conditions.
Riders were not at all comfortable with this new training methode. Luckily the environment is that harsh on humans that resistance became futile. Once they surrendered to the new conditions, a new world opened up to them. Digging deeper in their reserves and themselves than ever before. All of this strengthened their faith.
The effect seems to be visible straightaway. On the desert plains of Salt Lake City, Dominic Haidegger suprised with a huge win at the start of the season. The German crossed the finishline first at Salt Lake City GP, a new scalp for our glorious team. That the race was won on American soil made the victory all the sweeter. Who knows what this season might bring else. May Gott be with us!
On a sidenote we have to report Emerson Prewitt for an immediate retirement. After lunch on the third day of the camp Prewitt was nowhere to be seen. The Bermudan seemed to have vanished, leaving no trace or signs. It left the group with many questions, mostly existentially ones. Although there was alot of worry and sorrow the event brought the group closer together.
p.s. Hog Bay CT or any other of the Bermudian teams. If Prewitt by any chance pops up somewhere at home, please care to let us know.
