There was really a controversial episode happening today at the Mount Taranaki Cup, where "The Pita" got gold.
After only 18 km a group of 16 rode away from the peloton that never saw them again. Team Formand United really dominated the BA and the Cap and SD from Formand's team went solo 10 km. before the finishing line.
The young stagiaire Philip Carstensen was chosen as Captain before the race by Ebbe Spas, but it was Eugenio Pita that could raise his hands after winning only a few inches in front of Carstensen.
The top rider dominated his new Captain.
- I thought that "The Pita" deserved this victory more than me. I am a new guy not even finished with Dr. Ferrari's young rider mountain training camps. I fact he needed it more than me to get points, Philip Carstensen said.
- I was surprised that my legs fetched a second spot, but I am humble as a Danish monk.
Team Manager Ebbe Spas explained the episode:
- I chose to go with Carstensen as Captain to draw away attention from a powerful "Pita". It was actually a masterpiece in tactics combined with DynEPO müsli bars! But to be honest, I think we will see more top results from Philip. You can compare this performance with Kuss and Vingegaard doing the Vuelta together.
- I also noted today that our team was dominating pretty much everything after I decided to go maybe no to making a Team Galacticos of Cycling. Ernst Hoff from Skudehavnen CC went third and won in the spring, but he was fast as a sea lion compared to Pita and Carstensen..
Eugenio Pita is now nr. 66 in the World, his best ranking ever.
