A few seasons ago Italian Pio Giommarva from Team Formand United was the arguably best downhiller in the game. Ebbe Spas even named him Captain Fantastic after a legendary result spree. But then he fell asleep and almost fell off the result lists.
Today his luck changed, and the artistic, technical downhiller now again delivered a top result ending as no. 3 at the Bielsko Biala - Zakopane.
- I might be an oldie with my 33 years, but a pizza still knows how to prep. Just ask Rice and Dr. Ferrari, Pio laughed at the press meeting.
- Well, I almost felt in my life's best form today and then finally capturing a podium at the Bielsko. That was epic. Mamma Mia!
But why did he disappear from the results for so long, what went wrong?
Pio did not want to answer the question at the press conference, but we asked Ebbe Spas, Team Manager, instead:
- Pio used a lot of his last season in the Peru mountains to train in high air. He had so much jetlag, when he rode races here in Europe. That was not a pleasant time for us. But Captain Fantastic is back now!
