It surely was a day to remember for Team Formand United. The Colombian climber Euginio Pita - only a Stagiare normally - fetched a Bronze medal at the Clásica de los Pirineos.
After only 11 kilometres, 2 riders got away from the peloton in a breakaway. No one followed Dale Ubisi (Totalidade) and Halbert Pounds (paceuts), and it was too late when the peloton was speeding up. Eugenio Pita was apparently the only one that really cared and after swallowing a DYNEpo Müsli bar, the youngster sprinted away from the pack and ended as no. 3!
"The Pita", as the others call him in the team, has had a hard time on Team Formand United, not really impressed any one after 1½ season as a Stagiare. But today was the day, where Team Manager Ebbe Spas gave him the Captain role. And that really paied out at the end.
- I am super happy that Ebbe Spas and Chris Boardman from the board gave me the chance to be Cap in such a nice mountain race. I gave my best and will have some pitas with my friends and celebrate the climb success, Pita said to the press.
